During Passover, it’s customary not to eat leavened bread, and in many households, there are certain dishes that are only consumed during the seder. But since this is a celebration, I think it’s only fitting to have some tasty and colorful Passover desserts on the table, too! Since leavened breads are off the menu, you’ll find a few sponge cakes and desserts here that use other means, such as matzah meal, to rise. Matzo meal is simply ground matzo! Clever, right? There are also some desserts here that don’t need any raising agents: just fresh ingredients and a bit of elbow grease. If you’re looking for some new and exciting ways to help celebrate this beautiful holiday, this list of 30 Passover desserts is for you! Chag sameach!
1. Chocolate Toffee Matzo Crack
This is the kind of sweet treat you can have out on the table or even give out in little bags as Passover gifts. You’ll need lots of chocolate and homemade caramel – don’t worry, it’s super simple. Pour it over the matzos so it soaks in, and then top with nuts and sea salt. When it all sets, you’ll be left with a crunchy, sweet, and salty treat. I like to drizzle over some white chocolate, too, to make it stand out better.
2. Chocolate-Matzo Layer Cake
If you’ve ever made an icebox cake, you’ll know that as the cookies or wafers sit in the cream or frosting, they begin to soften to an almost cake-like consistency. It’s no different here, and the matzos will be lovely and tender after a few hours in the freezer. This has such a beautiful mocha flavor since you’ll pre-soak the matzos in coffee! Feel free to add in some sugar to that if you like it a little bit sweeter. This is great with some whipped cream and a dusting of cocoa powder.
3. Chocolate-Covered Strawberries
Chances are you’ll be serving a crowd for the seder. When you have lots of hungry mouths, it’s essential to have some easy-to-make treats on the table to help save you some time. Chocolate-covered strawberries are simple, juicy, sweet, rich, and always a winner. I like to use a piping bag, striping with a combination of dark and white chocolate instead of dipping them. It’s so much faster, and the texture looks fabulous.
4. Flourless Chocolate Cake
Flourless chocolate cakes should be rich, intensely chocolatey, and wonderfully fudgy. This recipe ticks every box and then some! The best part is you’ll make a quick ganache that just needs to be poured over the top. It will set perfectly smooth and look very elegant. Serve with some of those strawberries from above for added indulgence!
5. 5-Ingredient Chewy Coconut Macaroons
Chewy and sweet, these light little cookies are the perfect non-leavened cookie for Passover. Using meringue in place of any rising agents, you’ll only need a handful of ingredients. Once your egg whites reach stiff peaks, very carefully fold through the rest of the ingredients. You’ll want it thoroughly mixed but not deflated.
6. Honey Lime Rainbow Fruit Salad
You can’t go wrong with a fresh and vibrant fruit salad! It’s always popular, and it takes just minutes to throw together. This recipe has a rainbow of ingredients, including red berries, green kiwi, blueberries, orange segments, and yellow pineapple. All that fruity flavor is enhanced by a simple lime and honey syrup that just needs to be tossed through.
7. Easy Mixed Berry Fruit Cups
Weather permitting, you might be looking to enjoy your seder outside. What could be better than a big table full of delicious food under the warm evening sky? If that’s the case, these fruit cups are the perfect on-the-go dessert. Serving the fruit in plastic cups will allow your guests to mingle outside with ease.
8. Easy Fruit Sorbet
Once you see how easy this recipe is, you’ll never buy store-bought again! Three ingredients and 15 minutes are all you’ll need to make any number of gorgeous and colorful homemade sorbets. Just be sure that your fruit is fully frozen before blending, or you won’t get the right consistency.
9. Dark Chocolate Frozen Banana Pops
Frozen bananas are still just a touch soft, making these very much like banana ice creams. The difference being they’re pure fruit! I like these because you can dip them or stripe with chocolate in a piping bag, and then it’s just a matter of adding your extras. Chopped nuts are a great option, but I love toffee bits for extra sweetness.
10. David Lebovitz’s Chocolate Sorbet
One bite of this, and you won’t believe it’s dairy-free. It’s so insanely creamy and moreish, but I promise, there’s no cream in sight! Top-quality Dutch cocoa powder is a must for this, as is the chocolate. If you use something cheap or full of sugars, you won’t have the same rich taste.
11. White Chocolate Mousse
I’m a massive fan of white chocolate mousse and will often choose it over dark. It’s much creamier and sweeter, which I love! This recipe does include eggs, which you’ll need to cook very gently with the cream to prevent them from scrambling. The trick is to go slow and keep it moving. This is particularly delicious with some raspberry coulis mixed through. The color is stunning, and the tart fruit pairs so well with the creamy chocolate.
12. Passover Apple Pecan Pie
Apple pie for Passover? That’s right! This genius recipe doesn’t use a traditional pie crust; making is seder-approved. Instead, you’ll soak your matzos in water and mix it with the apple filling to help bind it. For the top, you’ll make a very simple buttery crumble using chopped pecans which get poured right over the fruit before baking.
13. Berries And Cream
Since Spring has sprung, there are so many sensational fresh fruits at the markets, and none shine brighter than all those gorgeous berries. They need a drizzle of simple syrup to get their juices flowing, but it’s the orange-infused cream that makes this extra special.
14. Tart Lemon Sorbet
As the name would suggest, this isn’t the sweetest dessert out there. I’m a huge fan of those fresh fruit sorbets from above because I have a huge sweet tooth! But this is the perfect dessert if you want something sweet but not too sweet. It’s pretty sour but super refreshing, and you can always up the sugar if it’s too much for you.
15. Mixed Berry Popsicles
If you’re not making your own popsicles, you’re really missing out! Not only is it super fun, but you can control exactly what goes inside! No more check the label for unpronounceable ingredients. You’ll need popsicle molds, of course, and more of those stunning berries from the market. I love the ombre look you get when you layer everything, but they will be just as tasty if you mix everything up.
16. Matzo Crisp with Pear, Apple, and Cranberries
If you thought that apple pie was clever, wait until you try this! The blend of pear, apple, and cranberry might seem very fall-like, but it’s super fruity and not too sweet. It’s also beautiful when it all starts to bubble up. This crisp topping has matzo crumbs, lots of warm spices, and chopped nuts to boot. Pecans work so well, but walnuts would make an excellent alternative.
17. Easy Healthy Popsicles
Making popsicles out of organic apple juice is pretty clever and a great way to keep the kids hydrated in the warmer months. Be sure to get juice that’s low in sugar and preferably organic. I love these with little chunks of apple inside, and maybe even some cranberries for a bit of extra color.
18. 2-ingredient Pineapple Cream Popsicles
Did you try that crazy-good Disney Dole Whip Recipe? I couldn’t believe it was just pineapple and ice cream! This is super similar, except you’ll need to blend frozen pineapple with coconut milk rather than ice cream. That not only makes them healthier, but vegan to boot! I made half a batch with pineapple and half with frozen mango and layered the two in my molds. They looked and tasted fantastic!
19. Easy Chocolate Avocado Freezer Fudge
It’s hard to believe these are full of avocado! You don’t taste it, but it makes the whole thing wickedly smooth and silky. The key is to make sure your avocado is very, very smooth. I used a food processor for mine to ensure there were no lumps left.
20. Homemade Applesauce
Am I the only one to eat apple sauce and ice cream? I can’t be, right?! I love making homemade applesauce. Not only does it make the whole house smell incredible, but I love being able to mix things up. Sometimes I use a variety of apples, mix up the spices, and I’ve even been known to throw in some pears if I have them!
21. Lemonade Popsicles
Who doesn’t love a glass of lemonade? I bet these popsicles will be even more popular! You’ll need lots of lemons and plenty of water and sugar. I just mixed it all until it tasted right – mine is usually sweeter! These look incredible with fresh raspberries dotted in there, too!
22. 2 Ingredient Dark Chocolate Mousse
Being a baker, I’ve made all kinds of mousse recipes, and yes, I tend to go for the fancy ones with eggs. Sorry! But when I’m in a rush, there’s nothing better than a quick two-ingredient chocolate mousse! This is perfect served in little pots with a nice dollop of whipped cream and some chocolate shavings.
23. Passover Chocolate Chip Cookies
I know what you’re thinking, but these have no leavening in sight! Instead, it’s a mix of matzo, brown sugar, butter, and vanilla. The method for these is almost exactly like regular flour-based cookies. You’ll cream the butter and sugar, then add the eggs. The only real difference is that you’ll use matzo meal in place of flour.
24. Chocolate Raisin Clusters
What better way to get the kids to eat their fruit than to cover it with chocolate? These are chewy, fruity, creamy, rich, and super simple to make. I like mine with added crunch, so I usually add chopped nuts or crushed cookies. You could easily add some crushed matzo to the mix for added texture.
25. Banana Soft Serve
I always have frozen bananas in my freezer, and you should, too! Not only are they great when you need last-minute banana bread, but this soft serve will change your life! I made this immediately after I first saw the recipe. Creamy, dreamy ice cream made with just banana? My heart skipped a beat! And yes, it is that good. It tastes just like banana ice cream, and depending on how ripe your fruit is; it can be more or less sweet. I like to throw in some extras (naturally) like chocolate chips or Reese’s Pieces!
26. Chocolate Covered Almonds
These nutty clusters are a great alternative to cookies. They have all the lovely chocolate flavor and a pleasant crunch but no added sugar. Almonds are naturally quite sweet, and the sea salt just brings it all to life.
27. Passover Cake Bites
Cake bites, cake balls, cake truffles – whatever you call them, they’re easy to make and always a hit. With this recipe, you’ll use a Passover-approved cake mix which you can find in most larger grocery stores these days. Instead of frosting, this uses chocolate ganache made with chocolate almond milk, so you know it’ll be rich!
28. Avocado Chocolate Mousse
Here’s another excellent chocolate and avocado mix! Avocado is so great for adding healthy fats, nutrients, and a wonderful creamy texture. I prefer the version with real chocolate, and I use something pretty intense and dark to boost that fantastic flavor. But the cocoa mousse is super tasty, too.
29. Easy Passion Fruit Mousse
As much as I adore passion fruit, it can be a bit expensive. But if you can’t splurge for Passover, when can you? These little mousse pots are to die for! They’re absolutely bursting with passion fruit flavor and are insanely silky and rich. You’ll need to make extra because I ate two before the guests arrived!
30. Healthy Chocolate Fudgsicles
I know you don’t usually see “healthy” and fudgsicles” in the same sentence, but here we are! This fantastic recipe uses frozen bananas! Like I said before, when blitzed from frozen, they’re just like ice cream! Blending them with some cocoa powder makes them wonderfully chocolatey, and the kids won’t know they’re full of fruit!
